About
Bill Laurance is the kind of musician who can hold down the keys for a Grammy winning jazz outfit, score an Oscar entry film, and still put out deeply personal solo records that sound like nothing else in contemporary jazz. As the pianist and a core member of Snarky Puppy, he has been part of three Grammy wins for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album, plus an earlier Grammy for Best R&B Performance on a track with Lalah Hathaway. His solo catalogue runs from the electroacoustic textures of his debut Flint through to Live at Union Chapel, a live record that landed on UDiscoverMusic's list of the 50 greatest live jazz albums. Beyond the stage, Laurance has carved out a real presence in film scoring. His work on the Cuban drama Un Traductor became that country's official submission for the Academy Awards, and he contributed themes to Initials S.G. as well as the David Crosby documentary Remember My Name. Crosby himself called Laurance one of the best piano players he had ever met, and the two worked together across several albums. Laurance also runs Flint Music, his own London based record label, and holds a residency at Morley College.
