Formed in Los Angeles in 1998 by guitarist and vocalist Zakk Wylde, Black Label Society built their reputation on a punishing blend of heavy metal, groove metal, and southern rock. Their debut, Sonic Brew, set the tone, with Wylde handling nearly everything himself across the first four studio records, playing guitar, bass, piano, and vocals on top of each other. The band's lineup has shifted constantly over the years, with notable bass stints from Robert Trujillo before he joined Metallica, and James LoMenzo before he landed in Megadeth. Black Label Society have released twelve studio albums in total, with Order of the Black hitting number 4 on the Billboard 200 and Catacombs of the Black Vatican debuting at number 5. They also put out a vinyl only EP, Nuns and Roaches, pulling together six songs originally recorded back in 1999. Their eleventh album Doom Crew Inc. arrived in 2021, showing no signs that Wylde plans to slow down anytime soon.
