Black Legend pulled off something genuinely rare: a number one on the UK Singles Chart with a cover that leaned fully into its own artifice. The Italian production duo Enrico Ferrari and Ciro Sasso teamed up with British vocalist Elroy "Spoonface" Powell to rework Barry White's "You See the Trouble with Me", with Powell re recording the vocal in karaoke style rather than hiding that fact. It hit the top spot in June 2000 and became one of the more memorable dance pop moments of that era. A follow up single, "Somebody", released under the name Shortie vs. Black Legend, didn't manage to repeat that chart success, but the group's one big moment was enough to cement their place in the dance music conversation of the early 2000s.
