About
Cardinals come from Cork, Ireland, and their sound is a strange, compelling blend of shoegaze, folk, pop and poetic punk. Shanty like verses build into sweeping choruses filled with dark love stories, delivered with the intimacy of a confession. There's a gritty, monochromatic quality to what they do, somewhere between urban rawness and rural melancholy, and the whole thing carries a strong thread of Irish musical tradition running through it. The band is built around family and friendship: brothers Euan and Finn Manning, their cousin Darragh, and former schoolmates Oskar Gudinovic and Aaron Hurley. Visually they cut a distinctive figure, all tracksuits, denim and sunglasses. They released a debut EP in 2024 and followed it with the album Masquerade.
