About
Chicago's Friko built their reputation on a debut album that caught serious attention fast. Where We've Been, Where We Go from Here landed in early 2024 with KCRW naming the track "Get Numb To It!" their top tune of the day, and Pitchfork putting the record on their must listen list. The band drew from an eclectic mix of influences for it, citing MewithoutYou, Mitski, and The Beach Boys, which tells you something about the range they're working with. Friko started as a trio in 2019 and eventually narrowed to core duo Niko Kapetan and Bailey Minzenberger before expanding again into a full four piece. Their follow up, Something Worth Waiting For, was recorded in Los Angeles with producer John Congleton, a name associated with ambitious, carefully crafted records. Signed to ATO Records, they seem to be building something genuinely long term.
