About

Also known as: Carl William Verheyen, Karl Verheyen

Carl Verheyen is probably best known as the guitarist of Supertramp, a gig he landed in 1985 after a chance encounter at a Los Angeles recording session led to an audition the very next day. He toured with the band through multiple decades, played on studio albums including Some Things Never Change and Slow Motion, and was still on stage with them for the 40th anniversary European tour in 2010 and 2011. Guitar Magazine ranked him among the world's top 10 guitarists, and his session credits are staggering, ranging from Dolly Parton and the Bee Gees to film scores for The Usual Suspects, Ratatouille, and Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol. Away from Supertramp, Verheyen has kept the Carl Verheyen Band running since 1987, releasing a steady stream of jazz fusion and progressive rock records that regularly feature heavyweight guests. Trading 8s brought together Robben Ford, Joe Bonamassa, Steve Morse, and Albert Lee for a guitarists' summit, while Mustang Run pulled in Simon Phillips and Jerry Goodman. He also teaches at USC and the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, and has written instructional books on improvisation and studio work.
