About
Cem Adrian built a following in Turkey with a high, haunting voice and a habit of recording and producing nearly everything himself. His first album, Ben Bu Şarkıyı Sana Yazdım, collected songs he had recorded on his own in Edirne between 1997 and 2003, and he followed it with Aşk Bu Gece Şehri Terk Etti, 13 songs all written by him. He even scored the film Sıcak and played a young imam in it. Since then the catalogue has grown fast: Kayıp Çocuk Masalları, Siyah Bir Veda Öpücüğü, Tuz Buz, the two Solmayan Şarkılar records and a run of Seçkiler compilations, plus a 2014 collaboration album with Umay Umay and guest spots with Fazıl Say and Soner Canözer. He is also known for speaking openly about censorship, freedom of speech and human rights, and for videos and artwork that deliberately pushed on taboos.
