About
Christophe Rousset is a French harpsichordist and conductor whose whole career has revolved around bringing Baroque music to life on the instruments it was actually written for. He founded his ensemble Les Talens Lyriques in 1991, which has since taken him to Carnegie Hall, the Concertgebouw, the Paris Opera and plenty of stages in between. His recordings of harpsichord works by Couperin, Rameau, d'Anglebert and Forqueray are considered benchmark versions, and his Bach discography is equally substantial, covering the Goldberg Variations, the Partitas, the English and French Suites and more. His recording of Book II of The Well Tempered Clavier, made at Versailles on a 1628 Ruckers harpsichord, picked up a Choc from Classica magazine and a BBC Radio 3 CD of the Week. He has also published musicological research, including a study on Rameau, and holds France's Legion of Honour among other distinctions.
