About
Most people know Danilo Plessow as Motor City Drum Ensemble, an alias that nods to Detroit, to Stuttgart's car industry, and to his pile of drum machines. His sound leans on the stuff he loves: Moodymann, Marvin Gaye, 70s jazz and 90s hip hop from the early J Dilla and Pete Rock era. He's best known for the Raw Cuts series and has put out singles and remixes on over twenty labels. He also co founded MCDE Recordings, Four Roses Recordings and Space Grape Records, the last one built around live contemporary music, including work with Jéroboam, musicians from Kyoto Jazz Massive. Outside the studio he's a regular behind the decks at clubs and festivals worldwide, has presented on Gilles Peterson's Worldwide FM, and curated Nuits Sonores in Lyon in 2016. Other aliases include Inverse Cinematics, Vermont, Jayson Brothers and Basic Variation.
