Theo Parrish runs deep on the idea that a DJ set should feel like an education. Based in Detroit, he built his reputation through marathon sets that pull from disco, jazz, soul, and new wave, mixing classics with genuine obscurities in ways that feel both unpredictable and completely right. Vice put it well, calling his sets "masterclasses in the manipulation of black dance music" driven by an understanding of repetition and groove that few can match. He founded Sound Signature in 1997, the label that has been home to most of his output, and his debut LP First Floor arrived on Peacefrog Records in 1998. Beyond solo work, he is part of 3 Chairs alongside Moodymann, Rick Wilhite, and Marcellus Pitman, and he leads the 21 piece collective The Rotating Assembly. His 2020 album Wuddaji is the latest in a discography that keeps pushing at what house music can contain.
