About

DJ Pierre, born Nathaniel Pierre Jones, is one of the architects of acid house. As a founding member of Chicago trio Phuture alongside Spanky and Herb J, he helped create the genre's signature squelch by experimenting with a Roland TB 303 bass line synthesizer in the late 1980s. The result was "Acid Tracks," a slow burning, bass heavy monster running over eleven minutes, first dropped by DJ Ron Hardy at the Music Box club and eventually released on Trax Records in 1986. That one track effectively defined what acid house would become. Pierre kept pushing through the years that followed, releasing a string of records on Trax under various aliases and later moving to Strictly Rhythm Records in New York. He produced tracks like "Follow Me" by Aly Us and "Everybody Dance (The Horn Song)" featuring Barbara Tucker, and in 2011 teamed up with Kris Menace for "Alpha Omega" on the Different label. Pete Tong inducted him into his dance music Hall of Fame in 2013, a nod to just how foundational his contributions to house music really are.
