About
DJ Pierre is one of the architects of acid house, full stop. As a founding member of the Chicago trio Phuture, he helped create "Acid Tracks" in the late 1980s, the record widely credited as the first acid house track. The group built that sound around a Roland TB 303 bass synthesizer, coaxing out that squelching, hypnotic tone that would go on to define an entire genre. Ron Hardy, the legendary Chicago DJ, was the first to spin it at the Music Box, playing it multiple times on its opening night. From there, Pierre kept busy on Trax Records under a string of aliases, collaborating with Felix Da Housecat among others. He moved through Strictly Rhythm Records in the 1990s, producing tracks like "Follow Me" by Aly Us and "Everybody Dance (The Horn Song)" featuring Barbara Tucker. Pete Tong inducted him into his dance music Hall of Fame in 2013, a nod to just how foundational his work has been to club culture.
