About

Erwin Nyhoff's story reads like something nobody would believe if you made it up. He first came to attention as frontman of The Prodigal Sons, whose 1993 debut Wine of Life landed them on the Pinkpop and Lowlands stages, support slots with Pearl Jam and Alanis Morissette, and two invitations to South by Southwest in Austin. The song "You Still Think" became a genuine nederpop radio hit. After the band ran its course, Nyhoff recorded a solo album, Take Your Time, in the US for Warner, produced by Richard Dodd, whose credits include Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Freddie Mercury and Johnny Cash. Warner then dropped all its Dutch acts in one go, and Nyhoff spent a period delivering newspapers at four in the morning and washing dishes in a canteen kitchen to get by. He clawed his way back by booking his own shows and eventually collaborated with former Rolling Stones guitarist Mick Taylor. A cover of Springsteen's The River on The Voice of Holland had the entire jury on their feet within seconds, and he reached the final watched by 3.6 million viewers. Since then he has played Paradiso, Koninklijk Theater Carré and De Zwarte Cross, toured with theatre shows built around Woodstock, Springsteen and Dire Straits, taken the lead role in Muskee So Many Roads about blues legend Harry Muskee, and toured the country with a ten piece band performing Elvis The Music.
