JW Roy, born in Knegsel in the Netherlands, is a singer songwriter who has been quietly building one of the more interesting catalogs in Dutch music since his debut in 1997. His first four albums were in English, but he eventually shifted to Dutch and the Brabantish dialect, which turned out to be a smart move. His 2005 album Laagstraat 443 marked that turn, and he has stayed rooted in that regional sound ever since. He works with a strong circle of collaborators, including Ilse DeLange, BLØF, Guus Meeuwis and Diggy Dex, among others. His 2015 track Treur niet, made with Diggy Dex, became the most played Dutch language song on radio in 2016 and won the SENA Performers Award. His 2017 album A Room Full Of Strangers came out just as he celebrated twenty years as an artist, and in 2022 he released Kouwe Kermis, complete with an accompanying book.
