Etana (JM)

About

Etana has spent the better part of two decades carving out a distinct lane in reggae, built on Rastafari principles, rootsy rhythms, and a voice that can shift from raw folk to neo soul without missing a beat. Her breakthrough single "Wrong Address" fused acoustic folk with roots reggae and drew from a very real story about her aunt being told to lie about her address to find work. It hit number one on several Jamaican charts and announced her as a serious force. Her fourth album, I Rise, topped the Billboard Top Reggae Albums chart for four consecutive weeks, making her the first female artist to lead that chart in over fifteen years. She repeated the feat with Reggae Forever in 2018, becoming the first woman in more than two decades to hit number one on that chart twice. That album also earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Reggae Album, a category that had gone without a female nominee for just as long.
