About
Fresku, born Roy Michael Reymound in Eindhoven, is a Dutch rapper, actor and comedian whose rap name comes from the Papiamento word for 'cheeky'. He raps in Dutch, a choice shaped by the influence of Dutch rap group Opgezwolle, and his work digs into the experiences of Dutch Antillean people while keeping room for humour and sharp character work. His comedic alter ego Gino Pietermaai, a dim witted stereotypical Curaçaoan figure, became so popular it briefly overshadowed his rap career, something he addressed directly in his breakthrough single Twijfel. He landed on TopNotch after sending an open letter track to label boss Kees de Koning, who called him within 24 hours. His self titled debut album followed in 2010, and his second record Maskerade took the State Award for Best Album in 2012. He has also crossed into film, with a small role in the cult Dutch movie New Kids Turbo, and into stand up theatre with his one man show. His discography now runs to six studio albums, the latest being Leren Leven from 2024.
