About
Also known as: Alex van der Zouwen
Kraantje Pappie, the stage name of Rotterdam area rapper Alex van der Zouwen, built his reputation on a seriously distinctive rhyming technique layered over dubstep and grime productions. His 2012 debut album Crane, produced by Noisia, put him on the map, and he went on to turn it into a trilogy, with the third instalment earning him a gold record in 2017. That same year, the single Pompen became a big hit across the border in Flanders too. In May 2015 he dropped three albums at once under the trilogy title Guardians van the Real Shit, featuring collaborations with the likes of Jan Smit, Dope D.O.D and Boef. His 2018 album Daddy pushed him even further: the track Lil Craney went platinum with over 160,000 copies sold, and Liefde in de lucht, a team up with Chef'Special singer Joshua Nolet, cracked the top 10. Outside of music, he has carved out a solid second career as a television presenter.
