Gerard Alderliefste has spent thirty years building a career around French chanson, performing under his distinctively memorable surname with a band that shares it. That band made four albums and four theatre tours, and picked up two top 10 hits along the way: 'Laat me / Vivre' and 'Une belle histoire / Een mooi verhaal', both of which still appear annually in the Dutch Top 2000. Those successes came partly through collaborations with Ramses Shaffy, Liesbeth List and Paul de Leeuw, and television appearances helped cement his reputation with a broad audience. The song 'Vivre', originally 'Ma dernière volonté' by Serge Reggiani from 1977, runs like a thread through his entire career, from intimate living room concerts to theatre stages and TV spots. His live shows lean into the warm, festive atmosphere of a French village fête, with accordion and violin in the mix alongside his own compositions and a rotating cast of musical friends.
