Gorod have been quietly building one of the most technically demanding catalogs in French metal since they started out as Gorgasm in Bordeaux back in 1997. They dropped the old name in 2005 to avoid mix ups with an American act, and from there the band carved out a reputation for intricate, relentless technical death metal that rewards close listening. Their 2009 album Process of a New Decline marked a turning point, earning solid critical notice and closing the chapter on original vocalist Guillaume Martinot, who was later replaced by Julien Deyres. Albums like A Perfect Absolution and A Maze of Recycled Creeds kept their standing firm in the genre, and Aethra in 2018 showed no sign of the band slowing down. Their seventh record, The Orb, landed in 2023, continuing a run of output that few acts in technical death metal can match.
