About
Gouge Away play the kind of hardcore punk that makes you feel like the walls are closing in, in the best possible way. The Fort Lauderdale band draws from a lineage that includes Pixies, Fugazi, and The Jesus Lizard, and their politics are just as sharp as their sound. Vocalist Christina Michelle writes lyrics that go after animal testing, police brutality, and social injustice with no apologies. Their 2016 debut, Dies, earned spots on best of lists at BrooklynVegan and Vice's Noisey, and their 2018 Deathwish Inc. album Burnt Sugar pushed things further, with Revolver calling "Ghost" the band's catchiest work to date and comparing it to anthemic nineties alt rock. They returned in 2024 with Deep Sage, also on Deathwish, and recent tracks like "Maybe Blue" and "Stuck in a Dream" show the band still finding new angles without losing any of their bite.
