Gregory Page makes music that sounds like it drifted in from another era entirely, somewhere between the 1920s and 1930s, all crooners and worn leather suitcases. But he is no nostalgist. His songs are romantic and dreamy one moment, sharp and wry the next, and he writes about life with the detached amusement of someone who has seen plenty and chooses to smile about it anyway. Over a catalogue that stretches to more than thirty albums, including Up A Tree and the earlier Modern Man, he has built a sound that is hard to pin to any single genre. His live shows blur the line between concert and cabaret. Between songs he drops short stories, reads poetry and lands jokes that take a beat to land. Intimate, unhurried and quietly funny, they feel less like a gig and more like spending an evening with a very good storyteller who also happens to carry a guitar.
