About
Cardiff's Holding Absence have carved out a reputation for emotionally raw post hardcore that doesn't shy away from big melodic swings. The band signed with SharpTone Records in 2017 after their contrasting double single Permanent/Dream of Me caught the label's attention, and they spent the following years building a following through relentless UK and European touring alongside acts like Young Guns, Being As An Ocean, and Sleeping With Sirens. Their self titled debut arrived in March 2019 and landed hard, earning a four K rating from Kerrang! and a spot on Loudwire's 50 best rock albums of that year. The road to finishing it was genuinely rough though: a key member left mid recording, forcing the band to rewrite and record half the album from scratch with a new lineup. Vocalist Lucas Woodland has said that upheaval actually shaped the record's best moments.
