About
Hurts built their name on a homemade video. In 2009 the Manchester duo, singer Theo Hutchcraft and multi instrumentalist Adam Anderson, uploaded a clip for "Wonderful Life" featuring a dancer who answered an ad they pinned up in a post office. It went viral and has racked up over 103 million views. Before that they had gone through two other bands, Bureau and Daggers, before a mournful ballad called "Unspoken" showed them the dark, dramatic synth pop sound they actually wanted. The label deals followed fast, with Bowie, Kraftwerk, Pet Shop Boys, New Order and OMD among their influences. Their 2010 debut Happiness landed at number four in the UK, and "Wonderful Life" hit number two in Germany. Kylie Minogue even sang on the album track "Devotion". Five albums later, from Happiness through Exile, Surrender and Desire to Faith, they remain a big draw across Europe.
