About
Also known as: Imani, Nadia Mladjao
Imany, the stage name of Nadia Mladjao, carved out a distinctive space in French pop soul with a voice that favors raw emotional honesty over production gloss. Her debut album The Shape of a Broken Heart went platinum in France and Greece and triple platinum in Poland, while the Filatov and Karas remix of "Don't Be So Shy" turned into a Europe wide chart hit in 2016, topping charts in Austria, France, Germany, Poland and Russia. Rooted in blues, folk and soul, her sound tends toward restrained acoustic arrangements that let her vocals do the heavy lifting. Beyond the music, Imany has become a vocal advocate for women's health, working with ENDOmind to raise awareness about endometriosis. Her project Women Deserve Rage digs into themes of empowerment and self assertion through a feminist lens, showing that her artistic ambitions and her social concerns are increasingly hard to separate.
