About
Selah Sue's debut album landed like a statement. Released in 2011, it sold over 720,000 copies across Europe and hit number one on the Belgian Albums Chart, with France alone accounting for 320,000 of those sales. Rolling Stone named her one of the new faces of 2012, and the singles "Raggamuffin", "Crazy Vibes" and "This World" made her a genuine cross border force. She even opened for Prince at the Sportpaleis, well before most people outside Belgium knew her name. Her sound pulls from soul, reggae, funk and hip hop, with nods to Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu and The Fugees among her main influences. The debut featured a duet with Cee Lo Green, and her 2015 follow up Reason continued the run of hits, with "Alone" reaching number one in Wallonia and cracking the top ten in Flanders and France. She also co wrote Belgium's 2016 Eurovision entry and contributed vocals to a collaboration with DJ Fresh and Diplo. In 2020 she returned with the Bedroom EP, and her 2022 album Persona brought in rappers Damso and Mick Jenkins for a more eclectic, style spanning record.
