About
Imperial Triumphant have been warping the boundaries of extreme metal since forming in New York City in 2005, blending black metal and dissonant death metal with a deep jazz sensibility rooted in their home city. Their vision really crystallized with Vile Luxury in 2018, which frontman Zachary Ezrin described as taking the New York City influence that shaped the world, embracing the jazz core of their sonic pyramid, and applying it to black metal. The 2020 album Alphaville pushed things further, recruiting guests including Tomas Haake of Meshuggah and Trey Spruance of Mr. Bungle, and landed at number ten on Metal Hammer's best metal albums of the year. Their sixth album Goldstar followed in March 2025, previewed by singles featuring Haake and Dave Lombardo. Visually, the band performs in gold masks and black robes, channeling Art Deco architecture and vintage smoking ads into a striking retro futurist stage presence.
