About
Oranssi Pazuzu take black metal and drag it somewhere stranger, blending it with psychedelia, dark ambient and Krautrock. The Finnish five piece have been at it since 2007, and critics keep landing on the same word for them: idiosyncratic. Loudwire called them among the most fearless groups in the genre, AllMusic hears space rock and progressive metal in the mix, and Refused drummer David Sandstrom has named them his favorite band. Their name mashes the Finnish word for orange with a Babylonian wind demon. Since the 2009 debut Muukalainen puhuu, recorded in a family cabin, they have put out six albums, including Valonielu, Värähtelijä and Mestarin kynsi. Their latest, Muuntautuja, arrived in 2024 and drew praise for its unpredictability and darker sound. Members also play in Atomikylä, and the band is part of the Wastement collective.
