Infected Rain put Moldova on the heavy metal map, building a sound that blends crushing riffs, electronic samples, and the versatile vocals of frontwoman Lena Scissorhands, who can switch between melodic singing and fierce screaming within a single track. Formed in Chișinău in 2008, the band quickly grew beyond their local scene, playing festivals alongside Mötley Crüe, Dimmu Borgir, Behemoth, and Obituary before embarking on a two month European tour. They are signed to Napalm Records and have put out a string of albums, from their 2011 debut Asylum through to TIME in 2024. Lena writes all the lyrics and has her vocals coached by New York based trainer Melissa Cross, which has helped her develop a style distinctive enough to earn her the title of Moldova's most eccentric vocalist. The band's 2017 album 86 is a good entry point, its title a nod to American slang for getting rid of something and a quiet wink at Lena's birth year. With six studio albums to their name and a live record released in 2023, Infected Rain have built a catalog that rewards repeated listening.
