Few bands from Italy made the kind of dent in North American metal that Lacuna Coil managed in the early 2000s. What started as a gothic metal act trading under names like Sleep of Right and Ethereal eventually became one of Century Media's best selling acts of all time, with over two million albums sold worldwide. Their 2002 album Comalies was the turning point, fuelled by the single "Swamped" landing on the Resident Evil: Apocalypse soundtrack and "Heaven's a Lie" winning Best Hard Rock/Metal Song at the Independent Music Awards. The dual vocal chemistry between Cristina Scabbia and Andrea Ferro became the band's signature. From there, Karmacode debuted at number 28 on the Billboard 200, and Dark Adrenaline cracked the top 15 of that same chart in 2012. They were the first female fronted band to co headline Ozzfest, sharing the stage with System of a Down and Ozzy Osbourne. Lately the band has been busy with new music, dropping the singles "Gravity" and "I Wish You Were D3AD" in early 2025.
