About
Delain grew out of keyboardist Martijn Westerholt's vision of a large scale collaborative metal project, and their 2006 debut Lucidity featured a who's who of the European metal world, including Marko Hietala, Sharon den Adel, and Liv Kristine. What started as a studio project became a proper touring band thanks to the warm reception that record got, and Delain went on to play festivals like Wacken Open Air, Hellfest, and Lowlands. The band built a loyal following across seven studio albums, blending symphonic grandeur with gothic and power metal. Their 2012 album We Are the Others tackled themes of acceptance and outsider identity, inspired in part by the tragic Sophie Lancaster case. After the 2020 release of Apocalypse and Chill and a full lineup change the year after, Westerholt rebuilt Delain around new lead vocalist Diana Leah, a Romanian Italian singer whose debut with the band, Dark Waters, came out in early 2023.
