Leaves' Eyes built their reputation on grand, orchestral metal with a strong obsession for Viking history and Norse mythology. Formed in Germany in 2003 by Liv Kristine and Alexander Krull, the band blends symphonic and gothic metal with folk elements, and across nine studio albums they have tackled everything from Leif Eriksson's voyages on Vinland Saga to the saga of Norway's first king on the concept album King of Kings. That record brought in the London Voices choir and guest vocals from Simone Simons of Epica, and marked their move to AFM Records. When Liv Kristine departed in 2016, Finnish singer Elina Siirala stepped in and the band kept pushing forward, releasing Sign of the Dragonhead in 2018 and The Last Viking in 2020. Their live show has always been a big part of the picture, including headline sets at festivals like Wacken Open Air, and they show no signs of slowing down.
