Jadakiss built his reputation as one of the sharpest voices in East Coast hip hop through two decades of relentless output, both with his Yonkers crew the Lox and on his own. Alongside Styles P and Sheek Louch, he helped shape a grimy street sound that stood in direct contrast to the polished Bad Boy era they came up in. The group's debut, Money, Power and Respect, hit number three on the Billboard 200, and their follow up We Are the Streets was equally well received. As a solo act, Jadakiss hit his commercial peak with Kiss of Death in 2004, when "Why?" featuring Anthony Hamilton became a genuine crossover moment, landing at number eleven on the Billboard Hot 100 and generating controversy for a lyric taking aim at George W. Bush. He later teamed with Fabolous for the collaborative album Friday on Elm Street and dropped his fifth solo record, Ignatius, in 2020, both to solid critical notices. His fifth studio album and work with Fabolous show he is still very much in the mix.
