About
Joep Pelt grew up teaching himself guitar by studying his idols from the Mississippi Delta, and that foundation took him far. He went on to pursue musical projects across Mali, South Africa and Ethiopia, building an eclectic playing style that moves easily between very different musical worlds. In the band DJAM!, he shares guitar and vocal duties alongside Malian guitarist Bounaly Traoré, drummer Randell Sambo and bassist Kyan Sambo. DJAM! draws its name from a word exchanged between dancers in northern Mali, meaning happiness, and the group uses music to shine a light on the human realities of the crisis in that region while carrying a message of love and solidarity.
