Kassa Overall

About

Also known as: Kass, Kassa

Kassa Overall operates in a space where jazz drumming, hip hop production and rapping all blur together, and the results are genuinely hard to categorize in the best possible way. Based in New York, he has played with the likes of Christian McBride, Ravi Coltrane and the late Geri Allen, and even held a stint in Jon Batiste's band on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert. His debut album Go Get Ice Cream and Listen to Jazz arrived in 2019, partly as a tribute to Roy Hargrove, who appears on the record. The follow up, I Think I'm Good, came out in 2020 on Brownswood Recordings and brought in Vijay Iyer, Brandee Younger and Angela Davis. Terri Lyne Carrington put it well when she called him a pre eminent style bender and blender. Lately he has been turning up at live venues across Europe and the US, covering everyone from Notorious B.I.G. to Digable Planets.
