Kelsey Lu blends classical cello training with atmospheric pop and R&B in a way that feels genuinely unlike anyone else working right now. Born in Charlotte and based in Los Angeles, she recorded her debut EP Church in an actual church in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, which gives you a pretty good sense of the vibe she's going for. That EP came out in 2016, and she spent part of that period touring as the opening act for Wet. Her debut album Blood followed in 2019, along with Blood Transfusion, a companion remix collection. Lu uses they/them pronouns. More recently, they announced a second studio album titled So Help Me God, produced by Jack Antonoff and Yves Rothman, featuring collaborations with Sampha, Kamasi Washington, and Kim Gordon, set for release via Dirty Hit.
