LABRYENCO is a four piece flamenco group from the Netherlands that manages to feel at home across an unusually wide range of musical worlds, from classical and jazz to world music and pop, without ever losing its flamenco core. The band centres on guitarist and composer Alain Labrie, who has also worked with Les Charmeurs, Luzazul, and Estér y Alain. Rounding out the lineup are bassist Franklin Heilijgers, percussionist Juri Kuefner, and vocalist Falu de Cádiz, described as the most sought after flamenco singer in the Netherlands. The group has released at least three albums, the third of which is titled Morir y Nacer, a phrase that translates roughly as dying and being born. That record drew attention well beyond the Dutch music press, picking up coverage in the American outlet World Music Central alongside reviews in Moors Magazine, Heaven, and several other publications.
