About
Also known as: Laura Figi, Laura Fugi, Louro fygi
Laura Fygi spent years in Centerfold, a Dutch all female disco act that built a following across Europe and Japan, before stepping away to reinvent herself as a jazz vocalist in the early 1990s. Her debut solo album came together with harmonica legend Toots Thielemans, setting the tone for a career built on serious collaborations: Johnny Griffin, Clark Terry, Michel Legrand, and the Pasadena Roof Orchestra have all featured along the way. She cites Julie London as an influence, which tracks when you hear her warm, intimate delivery. What makes her catalogue genuinely interesting is its range: she has recorded in English, French, Portuguese, Spanish, and Chinese, covering bossa nova, French jazz, and Latin repertoire with equal ease. Albums like The Latin Touch and her Ronnie Scott's live record show an artist who sounds completely at home across different traditions.
