About
Lelo is a rapper from Detroit whose sound pulls from the city's street rap tradition while weaving in house music and the 1980s Detroit techno scene. He calls this blend his 'New Detroit' sound, and it runs through his double mixtape Mastiff / Pink Tiles, a two part project that also pushes into more experimental, ghettotech and club influenced territory. Singles like 'Dice Roll' and 'Yoppenheimer (Remix)', the latter featuring Joey Bada$$, along with 'Like Sunday', have helped him build a growing profile. His live career has moved quickly too. He made his debut at Rolling Loud, performed alongside Don Toliver at Summerfest, and wrapped a fifteen city sold out tour with a homecoming show at St. Andrew's Hall in Detroit. Coverage in Billboard, Pitchfork, The FADER and Highsnobiety followed, marking him out as one of the more distinctive new voices coming out of the American Midwest.
