About
Lido Pimienta's music sits at a genuinely unusual crossroads: traditional Afro Colombian and indigenous styles like cumbia and bullerengue woven together with synthpop and electronic production. Born in Barranquilla and now based in Toronto, she broke through when her self produced 2016 album La Papessa won the Polaris Music Prize, Canada's top juried music award. The Globe and Mail called her "the future of Canadian rock and roll" off the back of it. Her 2020 album Miss Colombia dug into her Colombian heritage and identity, sparked in part by the Miss Universe 2015 pageant incident and the outrage it caused back home. Beyond music, Pimienta is also a visual artist and curator, and she created and hosted Lido TV, a variety show that premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2022. Her fourth studio album La Belleza arrived in May 2025, described as an orchestral suite ranging from Gregorian chant to dembow rhythms, and a track called Tóxica surfaced in 2026.
