Dallas bred singer, songwriter, and producer Liv.e makes music that genuinely resists being pinned down, blending R&B, neo soul, hip hop, jazz, and pop into something that sounds like her own category. She builds tracks under the alias HayLee and also raps as Jade Fox with the group Kryptonyte alongside Pink Siifu and Lord Byron. Her 2020 debut album Couldn't Wait to Tell You, recorded in her bedroom, landed to serious critical praise and caught the ear of Erykah Badu, who called her work an extension of her own. Her follow up, Girl in the Half Pearl, cemented her reputation further, earning spots on year end lists from Pitchfork, Clash, and Slant Magazine. She then threw a curveball with Past Futur.e, a synth punk and synthwave leaning release that deliberately breaks from her earlier sound, inspired by the same spontaneous recording energy as her 2018 EP Hoopdreams.
