Lucy Bedroque, the Los Angeles based rapper and producer who records under the name Jeremiah Mark, built an early cult following with their 2023 debut album Sisterhood, a lo fi demo tape aesthetic that sampled rock heavyweights like Linkin Park, Malice Mizer, and Dir En Grey. Around the same time, they and collaborator Kaystrueno coined the term "maplekore", a sound inspired by the South Korean MMORPG MapleStory, which gives you a pretty good sense of how deep the rabbit hole goes. Their 2025 mixtape Unmusique, released through deadAir Records, marked a real shift: Pitchfork compared the harder, rage influenced sound to Playboi Carti and Lil Uzi Vert, noting a strong EDM pull throughout. The title itself is a nod to stepping outside their usual self produced comfort zone and letting other producers into the room. Bedroque has also been working on a follow up to Sisterhood, tentatively called Svelte Child, which they describe as mixing that album's palette with shoegaze, math rock, metal, and happy hardcore.
