About
Named after Erykah Badu's second album, Mamas Gun is a London soul and funk outfit built around singer, writer and producer Andy Platts. Their debut Routes to Riches landed in 2009 and became the most played international record on Japanese radio that year, with the single 'House on a Hill' reaching number 2 on the Japanese Hot 100. That kind of cross cultural pull set the tone for a career that has since grown through five albums. Platt's outside work tells its own story: he has co written with Rod Temperton and John Oates, scored number one hits for Korean artists Park Hyo Shin and John Park, and since 2015 has run the yacht rock project Young Gun Silver Fox alongside Shawn Lee. Back with Mamas Gun, 2018's Golden Days marked a real shift as the band self produced and self recorded the whole thing, landing on a sound rooted in classic soul with a slightly alternative edge. The 2022 video 'Party for One' shows they have kept the momentum going.
