About
Mannen van Naam are a Dutch nederpop act built around a love for Irish folk music and the art of a good story. Their live shows draw heavily on the repertoire of The Dubliners and The Pogues, mixing rousing Celtic tunes with heartfelt ballads, and frontman Ton Smulders keeps things moving between songs with tales and anecdotes gathered in Irish pubs. The instrumentation leans into the tradition: Ad Grooten on mandolin, Wilbert van Duinhoven on accordion and Siard de Jong on fiddle. Despite singing mostly in Dutch, the band manages to hold onto the communal, everyone in it together spirit that Irish folk is known for, pulling that atmosphere straight into a theatre setting.
