About

Pater Moeskroen started as a loose idea on a drive through Belgium in 1985, and somewhere between a joke about brewing beer and a shared love of playing live, they became one of the Netherlands' most distinctive folk acts. Their sound pulls from klezmer, Celtic music and punk in equal measure, with Dutch lyrics that swing between deadpan humour and genuine weight. They famously had just two rehearsals before their first gig, and "no rehearsals, just play" stuck as something of a philosophy. Their 1991 single "Roodkapje", a Dutch retelling of Little Red Riding Hood, shot up the charts and put them on the national map. They later carved out a double life: summers in festival tents and party circuits, winters in theater tours with full thematic shows. Productions like "Diddelidee" drew on Irish folk and ran for over 70 performances. The band has kept rotating members over the years while holding on to that ramshackle, warm energy that made them stand out from the start.
