If you've ever heard a bass that seems to drive an entire song on its own, there's a decent chance Marcus Miller was behind it. The Brooklyn born musician has played on more than 500 recordings, showing up on albums by Michael Jackson, Beyoncé, Eric Clapton, Frank Sinatra, and Elton John, among many others. He spent years as one of New York's most in demand session players before stepping into a bigger role as a composer and producer. His work with Miles Davis produced three landmark albums, Tutu, Music from Siesta, and Amandla, and his partnership with Luther Vandross was just as deep, co writing hits like "Power of Love" and co producing most of Vandross's catalog. Miller's fingerprints are all over jazz, funk, R&B, and film scores. He composed the song "Da Butt" for Spike Lee's School Daze, served as musical director for the NBC late night show Sunday Night alongside David Sanborn and Jools Holland, and formed the all star bass supergroup SMV with Stanley Clarke and Victor Wooten. He also hosts Miller Time with Marcus Miller on Sirius XM's Real Jazz channel, where he digs into jazz history. A UNESCO Artist for Peace since 2012, Miller brings that same breadth of curiosity to everything he touches.
