About
Mateus Asato built his reputation one Instagram video at a time, and the guitar world took notice fast. The Brazilian guitarist from Campo Grande developed a distinctive fingerstyle approach heavy on hybrid picking, weaving in jazz influences, double stops, and fluid chord slides that Guitar World tagged as neo soul. John Mayer has called him one of the best guitar players around, and Guitar Magazine placed him among the 50 most exciting young guitarists in the world in 2019. That kind of buzz earned him touring stints with Tori Kelly, Jessie J, and Bruno Mars, plus his own signature model from boutique builder Suhr Guitars, which was unveiled at the 2020 NAMM Show. He has also run guitar clinics in South Korea and Singapore, spreading his technique to players well beyond his million plus social media following.
