About
Michael Mayo built his debut album Bones around a wild idea: his take on "Stolen Moments" stacks more than 250 layered vocal tracks, a nod to a cappella master Bobby McFerrin. Jazzwise called the record "a work of startling originality," one that references everything from The Beach Boys to J Dilla. His parents even show up on the closing track. The Los Angeles singer and composer has toured with Herbie Hancock and worked with Kneebody, Jacob Collier, Christian Sands, Josh Groban and drummer Nate Smith, plus a stint in the Shrek themed jazz and R&B band Shrek Is Love. Bones came out in 2021 on Mack Avenue Records, and the follow up Fly arrived in 2024. Fly earned Grammy nominations for Best Jazz Vocal Album and, for the track "Four," Best Jazz Performance. He also played his own NPR Tiny Desk Concert in 2025.
