About
Also known as: Ure Midge, ミッジ・ユーロ
Few people have left fingerprints on as many corners of British pop as Midge Ure. The Scottish singer, guitarist and producer moved through Slik, Rich Kids, Visage and Thin Lizzy before becoming the second frontman of Ultravox, steering the band to a string of chart hits including the glacial art pop landmark "Vienna", "Hymn" and "Dancing with Tears in My Eyes". He wrote and produced "Fade to Grey" for Visage, co wrote Phil Lynott's "Yellow Pearl" which soundtracked Top of the Pops through much of the decade, and his solo debut The Gift hit number two in the UK, with "If I Was" going all the way to number one. Beyond his own recordings, Ure co organised Band Aid with Bob Geldof in 1984, co writing and producing "Do They Know It's Christmas?", a single that sold 3.7 million copies in the UK on first release and remains the second highest selling single in UK chart history. He went on to co organise Live Aid and Live 8 with Geldof, and serves as an ambassador for Save the Children. Later solo albums including Breathe, Fragile and the orchestral reworking Orchestrated show he has never stopped finding new angles on his own catalogue.
