Mike Dawes has built a reputation as one of the most technically inventive fingerstyle guitarists around, making a single acoustic guitar sound like an entire band. His 2012 arrangement of Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know" caught fire online and even earned public praise from Gotye himself, while his solo cover of Metallica's "One" pulled in around forty million clicks in its first two weeks, pulling in fans from the progressive metal world who might not normally be looking for acoustic guitar content. He was the first acoustic artist signed by DiMarzio, co designing a pickup alongside Larry DiMarzio, and MusicRadar and Total Guitar named him Best Acoustic Guitarist in the World Right Now two years running in 2017 and 2018. Beyond his solo work, Dawes has toured over thirty countries, played the Great Wall of China, and opened for the Orchestra featuring members of ELO on the Moody Blues Cruise. He also contributed guitar and percussion to AMC's Better Call Saul and tours regularly with Tommy Emmanuel. Influenced by fingerstyle pioneers like Michael Hedges and Eric Roche, his sound pulls from folk, rock, and pop without ever feeling boxed in.
