About

Moke are an Amsterdam band with a sound rooted in britpop and piano rock, fronted by Belfast born singer Felix Maginn. Their 2007 debut album Shorland put them on the map fast, partly thanks to a stroke of luck during recording: legendary British rock figure Paul Weller was in Amsterdam at the same time, heard what they were working on, and invited them to open two of his London shows at The Forum. Not a bad start. The single Last Chance then got picked up as the closing tune for UEFA Champions League quarter final coverage on Dutch national TV, and a TV appearance on De Wereld Draait Door turned them into a genuine media hype almost overnight. From there, Moke landed slots at Lowlands and London Calling, opened for Razorlight, and eventually shared a stage with the Metropole Orkest at the Heineken Music Hall. Their sharp, tailored look caught the eye of Karl Lagerfeld, who chose them to wear his new collection, and Toyota used one of their singles in a national ad campaign. The band name, for what it's worth, is not slang for Amsterdam as many assume, but a tribute to Maginn's late uncle.
